DETAILS |
During this free workshop, participants will
learn the basics of building relationships with young people and how to
incorporate these principles into your work with young people. This workshop
will discuss the unique needs of students, particularly in schools in urban
settings, and the importance of role modeling as a coach rather than simply a
mentor or friend. Difficult conversations with students will also briefly be
discussed, as well as how to redirect/respond to students in these
situations.
This workshop features trainers for City Year
Chicago, an education focused, nonprofit
organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time
service to keep students in school and on track to graduation.
This event is open to any students (Loyola and
non-Loyola), community organizations, volunteers, and community members
interested in youth work and youth development.
Light refreshments and networking event
immediately after workshop. Registration is limited to 60 participants. The
first 25 registrations will win a Center for Experiential Learning water
bottle.
Free parking available at
the main parking garage at Sheridan and Winthrop and the Granada parking garage
by the Loyola Red Line station. |
