Local School Council Elections

Local School Council Elections
The next LSC elections will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, for elementary schools and Thursday, April 19, 2012, for high schools.
In addition to the principal, elected Local School Councils (LSCs) consist of 6 parents, 2 community members, 2 teachers, 1 non-teaching staff member and, in high schools, 1 student. The parent and community members are elected by the parent and community voters in the election. The teacher, non-teaching staff and high school student members are appointed by the Board of Education following non-binding, advisory preference polls of the school staffs and students. Candidates for elected LSCs may obtain and file nomination forms in the schools where they seek to serve.
Also on April 18 and April 19, at schools with appointed Local School Councils, in non-binding advisory preference polls parents and staff will select parent and teacher candidates for appointment to the councils by the Board of Education. In addition, the schools' appointed LSCs will recommend candidates for appointment to their advocate and community member positions by the Board and, in non-binding, advisory preference polls, high school students will vote for candidates for appointment to the student member position by the Board. Candidates for appointed LSCs may also obtain and file nominations forms in the schools where they seek to serve. Principals uncertain of the composition of their appointed local school councils should consult the Office of LSC Relations at 773-553-1400.
