Dunne Literacy Night

Hello everyone
We are planning our annual Literacy Night on January 18, 2012 from 5-7PM. During the week of Jan 17 - 20, we will have various activities for our students relating to reading. The Scholastic Book Fair will be going on the whole week and you are welcome to stop by and purchase book.
We are also planning a "Real Men Read" activity on Thursday, Jan 19th. We would love to have some of our men from the community come in and read to our students. If you are able to help with this, please let me know ASAP. You can choose the grade level you prefer and recommend the book or poem you would like to read.
Also, we have a Christmas Craft and Bazaar coming up on December 15 from 4:30 to 6:30.  There wil be vendors for shopping, light refreshments, craft projects for the kids and a performance by our drama clum. You are invited to attend.

DECEMBER MAN-BOY BREAKFAST

Those of you who missed the November Man-Boy Breakfast missed one of the great presentations by media mogul Carl D. West. Originally a denizen of Chatham his story was both real and inspiring to all in attendance. I was of course again extremely disappointed with the turnout. I'm looking for principals that see the value of their boys participation in a "movement" designed to transform them into engaged, effective learners (students). If the young men are encouraged to attend and participate in our homework and projects they should begin to see school (knowledge), as an opportunity for advancement and act accordingly.

The Breakfast is a monthly celebration of manhood, its joys and responsibilities. Our speakers are an eclectic group of interesting, successful men who grew up similarly to their audience and overcame the challenges of poverty, single parent households, indifference to education etc. In sixteen years it has become an award wining Saturday morning tradition because of the successful partnership between CPS member schools and the Concerned Christian Men. We all have a stake in these boys' education, by profession, love or our tax dollars, make the Man-Boy Breakfast a monthly commitment to help maximize our investment.

I WANT TO ATTEND EVENT DETAILS 2012 SPRING NON-PROFIT OPPORTUNITIES FAIR Join us on January 25, 2012 for a day of professional development workshops and a recruitment fair to engage Loyola students with your organization through volunteer opportunities, internships, or service-learning projects!  Feel free to attend a workshop in the morning, stay all day for workshops AND the recruitment fair, or join us later for the recruitment fair only.  It's completely up to you and your organization's schedule!  Below is an outline for the day and a description of the workshops provided.  AGENDA FOR THE DAY: *All events located in Centennial Forum Student Union on the Loyola Lakeshore Campus.* 9:00 a.m. - Registration:  Coffee and pastries provided.  9:30 a.m. - Concurrent Workshops:  See descriptions below. 10:30 a.m. - Set-up for Recruitment Fair begins. 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. - Recruitment Fair PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS: Effective Volunteer Management:  This workshop will discuss best practices in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers and interns.  Perfect for new volunteer coordinators or those interested in expanding their volunteer base.  Asset-Based Community Development:  This workshop will provide an overview of the principles and practices of this community development model.  Questions and discussions of place, social captial, and common vision will guide the conversation.  QUESTIONS?
