On, January 20, 2011, the Department of Labor (DOL)announced a new grant solicitation for the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) Program. Through TAACCCT, DOL's Employment and Training Administration will award approximately $500 million this year and up to $2 billion over the next four years to support the development and improvement of postsecondary programs of two years or less that use evidence-based or innovative strategies to prepare students for successful careers in growing and emerging industries.
While eligible applicants are community colleges and other higher education institutions, the grant solicitation encourages the participation of faith-based and community organizations as partners.
Such
organizations can play an especially valuable role under the program's first funding priority: to accelerate progress for low-skilled and other workers.
Specifically, applicants are encouraged to:
* Enhance relationships with community-based organizations and/or other appropriate entities that serve or represent segments of the diverse targeted population (men, women, racial and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, veterans, etc.).
* Conduct outreach about training opportunities and meet the needs of diverse workers while they are in training through appropriate supportive services such as mentoring, childcare, and transportation assistance.
The Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Labor encourages community organizations to reach out to local community colleges to develop a partnership. If you have any questions regarding this new grant solicitation, please contact the Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Labor at
