Job Announcement

Urban Health Institute

Position Announcement

Research Assistant,
Avon Breast Cancer Community Grant

The Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI), founded in March 2000, is an initiative of the Sinai Health System in an effort to create innovative approaches to improve the health of Chicago’s urban communities.  Led by a team of dedicated and energetic social epidemiologists, the Institute provides evidence-based examination of community health status, the effectiveness of interventions and clinical care, and health-care delivery methodologies.  A major component of the Institute’s work involves social issues such as poverty and how they impact on health.

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Helping Her Live project, an intervention to improve breast cancer outcomes and ultimately reduce the breast cancer mortality in two Chicago community areas, North Lawndale and Humboldt Park.  The Research Assistant will work closely with the Project Team, under the guidance of the Project Evaluator.  The Research Assistant will be responsible for providing support in completing day-to-day activities of the project.  Specifically, s/he will be responsible for reviewing client charts, tracking errors, and providing feedback to navigators; managing the client database (MS Access) by entering and maintaining data;  acquiring, filing and organizing relevant research articles; summarizing research findings when necessary; extracting data from patient charts or medical records; and providing overall research support for the project.  The position may also require assistance on other SUHI project as time allows.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in health, sociology, public health, social work or related field is helpful, but is not required.  Experience can substitute for education.  Position requires excellent organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.  Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Access.  Should be comfortable searching for research articles and learning a new software, as needed.  Should also be resourceful and wiling to assist on other projects.  Experience/interest in working with diverse and vulnerable communities is a plus.

Starting Date:
The candidate will start as soon as possible.  Sinai Health System is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people of color and women to apply.
