Program Information
The American Academy of Dermatology's Shade Structure Program awards grants in the amount of $8,000 each for the purchase of permanent shade structures designed to provide shade and ultraviolet (UV) ray protection for outdoor areas. The AAD also provides a permanent sign to be displayed near the shade structure that promotes the importance of sun safety. The AAD receives support for this program from Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Co.Click here to complete the 2011 Shade Structure Program application.

Eligible Applicants
To be considered for future grants, applicants must:
- Be a nonprofit organization or public school that primarily serves children and teens who are 18 and younger.
- Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to sun safety and skin cancer awareness by having a sun safety/skin cancer awareness program in place for at least one year prior to application. Visit the Academy's Sun Safety Program Database for activities to implement a plan for your organization.
- Be sponsored by an AAD member dermatologist. Locate an AAD member dermatologist by using the Find A Dermatologist tool.
