Training dollars for Unemployed/Underemployed-

Workforce Investment Act (WIA) currently has job training funds available to support individuals who are unemployed or underemployed. The details are as follows:

              

1. The funds are administered through local WorkNet offices and you must go the office in the area you live. 

2. You will need to attend a few informational seminars and then schedule an appointment with a WIA screener /case manager who will evaluate your eligibility. There is a lot of documentation that is required and it may be quite a long process to get the appointment and the evaluation of eligibility.

3. Training funds are available whether you are employed or unemployed. They are intended for those who need to supplement their skills to obtain a job or improve their career path in some way. 

4. Once you get the funds, the maxium amount of the grant is $5,000.00 and the funds are payable to the provider which you can use for job training and/or certifications through approved training providers. It is a once in a lifetime grant and I don't believe it has an expiration date.

5. There is a list of training providers on the WorkNet site. However, be advised that it is not complete and you may want to do your own research to find if a particular provider accepts the WIA vouchers.
