Externship Opportunity

Hello everyone:

Here are great externship opportunities for someone with a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree, and who is specifically interested in pursuing further graduate studies in health disparities with Latinos for research training opportunities and experiences offered at the University of Illinois at Chicago. 

Pending grant funding, this opportunity would provide exceptional training for an individual who would like to pursue a graduate degree in the future, particularly in psychology, medicine, public health or related fields, and specialize in health disparities.  See below for additional information about some of the training opportunities and experiences that may be offered if this grant is funded.

Description: Engage in research training activities and provide research support for a Latino health study focusing on culture, obesity, diet, physical activity, and body image in Latino men.  Activities may include: community-based recruitment, conducting quantitative and qualitative interviews, study management, assembling study materials, database entry/verification, literature searches, assisting with manuscript and grant preparation. Work with the database manager to ensure quality control of the data collected for health studies with ethnic minorities.

Training Opportunities:

Pending a grant application and funding, raining opportunities may exist in the following areas:

  • Culturally competent assessments and interviews with Latinos
  • Community based participatory research
  • Ethnic Minority Health Promotion in obesity, diet, physical activity, body image in Latino men and women
  • Cancer Prevention in Latinos
  • Ethnic Minority Mental Health
  • Culturally competent translations
  • Process of community engagement in health research
  • Depending on level of experience, supervision of trainees in the above areas.
  • Didactics in obesity, cancer prevention, and mental health, as relevant
  • Opportunities to participate in grant preparation
  • Opportunities to participate in conference presentations or papers, as relevant
