OJJDP Mentoring Grants Will Continue Through 2011
June 1, 2011: MENTOR has confirmed that youth mentoring grants within the Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) will be funded at $82,834,000 for the remainder of this year.
"In today's Congressional landscape, this is great news," said MENTOR's President and CEO Dr. Larry Wright. "We have known for more than a month that $148 million needed to be trimmed from OJJDP's funding level. We have been working with the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Commerce, Justice and Science to request that dollars be cut from programs across the board, which ultimately was the road taken."
"On behalf of MENTOR's affiliated programs, we are grateful, and we will continue to advocate for funds in this program, as well as funds for the Mentoring Children of Prisoner's program through the Department of Health and Human Services," Wright said.
