General Summary: 
“A Community United to Raise Awareness: Asthma and Active Living” is a project within the Rush Center for Urban Health Equity at Rush University Medical Center.  This project uses a community-based participatory research approach with individuals and organizations in the Humboldt Park neighborhood to design an intervention for children who suffer from both asthma and are overweight/obese.  The Research Assistant is responsible for organizing the project, preparing forms, recruiting participants, performing data collection, data management, and data analysis.  Year 1 of the project is completed.  Years 2-5 of the project will involve the testing of several interventions in both the home and school.  The Research Assistant will assist to build relationships with organizations and schools, recruit participants, collect data, and manage data.  This position therefore requires someone who is highly organized, flexible, comfortable in multiple environments, and with outstanding interpersonal skills.    The Research Assistant will work closely with contacts at the partner organizations (Puerto Rican Cultural Center, the Greater Humboldt Park Community of Wellness, and CLOCC).  In all aspects of this position, the Research Assistant exemplifies the Rush University Medical Center mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures at all times.

Main Responsibilities:
-          Collect data in homes
-          Enter data, organize data
-          Call participants
-          Attend community meetings and events
-          Perform community outreach
-          Create and organize study materials

Requirements:
-          Fluent in English AND Spanish
-          Bachelors degree preferable
-          Transportation to and from Rush, and to homes in Humboldt Park
-          Computer skills with Word and Excel
-          Flexible time schedule (will need to work some evenings and weekends)
-          Familiarity with Humboldt Park and its organizations is preferable
-          A passion for community service and activism is preferred

Details:
This is a part-time position, about 20 hours/wk.  The starting salary is $15/hr.  Part-time benefits options through Rush will be offered.  There is the potential for 3 years of employment on this project.
