Cooling Down Your Classroom

Hello Friends, Colleagues and School Partners!

Recently, there has been much talk about bringing recess back in 2012 and/or lengthening the school day.  If so, teachers will need to give students rest and playtime during the day to keep those longer academic hours productive.

So, why not collaborate to provide workshops/professional development on bringing movement (yoga, stretching, breathing, etc.) into the school day to increase student attentiveness and focus?

This occurred to me because I was featured on WGN recently as part of Healthy Schools Campaign's 'Fit to Learn' initiative doing a similar training.

The link below is my recent blog post describing my "Cooling Down Your Classroom" model along with the WGN television clip.

I have attached a PDF of the activities I used with teachers featured on WGN, along with a discount coupon to bring this program to your school.

If your teachers are trained in simple and effective strategies to "cool down" students by bringing movement and physical activity to the classroom, fears about recess and a longer school day would be quelled.

Thanks a bunch and let me know your thoughts,

Carla
