Position Summary:
The TWISTA Intervention Specialist is responsible for organizing and conducting curriculum-based HIV prevention education workshops targeting transgender young women of color.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities*:
  • Assist in the development of a group-based HIV prevention curriculum addressing the health and social issues of transgender youth of color using existing CDC-approved curricula.
  • Facilitate weekly health education workshop cycles and accurately disseminate HIV prevention information and assist participants in developing risk reduction skills.
  • Work with project recruitment staff to develop and conduct outreach in order to enroll members of the target population into group intervention services.
  • Provide individual-level HIV prevention counseling to participants after the completion of a health education cycle.
  • Oversee the accurate collection and documentation of client data and ensure information is stored in compliance with agency privacy practices.
  • Assist in the monitoring of program goals through the tracking of program outcomes for both groups and individual interventions.
  • Gain participant feedback by organizing project-specific focus groups and advisory boards.
  • Support all other initiatives of the Broadway Youth Center and Howard Brown Health Center.
  • Conduct all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A minimum of 5 years experience conducting HIV prevention interventions is required. Candidates must also have professional experience working with members of the transgender community and demonstrate an understanding of the health and social issues which often place transgender youth of color at risk. A Bachelors degree in health/social services or other related fields is highly desirable.
The TWISTA Intervention Specialist must be an effective communicator, highly organized, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
