Depaul USA and Nightstop

Youth Network Council/Illinois Collaboration on Youth is excited to introduce Chuck Levesque, Executive Director of Depaul USA. Depaul USA is a member of Depaul International, a 501 (c)(3), non-profit with affiliates in the UK, Ireland, Slovakia and Ukraine serving more than 7,000 people a year. They focus on community collaboration to resolve issues of homelessness. Currently Depaul USA runs a transitional housing program in Philadelphia and just started a resource center for homeless people in Macon, Georgia. Chuck, a resident of Chicago, contacted Liz Tracy responding to the Chicago Safe Place campaign and how Depaul USA might collaborate with Safe Place and addressing youth homelessness.

Chuck talked about "Nightstop", a program of Depaul UK, that offers homeless and runaway youths aged 16-24, temporary, short-term housing with volunteer families across Britain while working to identify permanent accommodations and/or assist with family mediation and reconciliation. We thought there might be some potential for replication in Chicago if not Illinois!

Depaul USA and YNC/ICOY invite you and your staff to join us on Tuesday October 25th from 2-3:30pm to learn more about Nightstop, discuss what currently exists (or doesn't) for runaway youth and homeless young adults, and the opportunities to establish the Nightstop program here in Chicago or in Illinois. The meeting will be held in the large conference room at YNC/ICOY offices, 111 E. Wacker, Suite 325, Chicago. Please RSVP with Denail Timms to be added to the security list: dtimms@youthnetworkcouncil.org.

As many of you would agree, there is a huge need for additional "beds" for homeless youth and young adults in Illinois. Please rsvp no later than Friday October 21st. If you have questions, please call Liz Tracy 312.507.1557 or Michelle Arnold 708.205.6467.
