Job Description
General Manager

Position Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing, directing and coordinating Company operations (other than accounting, human resources, IT, customer service, costing and new product development) including manufacturing, engineering, plant operations, sales, marketing, and purchasing.  The position will report to the Company’s President and Executive Vice President.

Responsibilities
·         Manages and directs the Company’s manufacturing activities including engineering and plant operations.
·         Manages and directs the Company’s sales and marketing activities.
·         Organize resources that will facilitate effective planning and monitoring of production processes, incoming material, inventory control; back orders, on time delivery methods to meet customer needs and establish quality specifications.
·         Achieve peak production efficiency by monitoring overall plant performance and quality standards by identifying and implementing cost effective strategies, organizing work flow, strictly controlling waste, monitoring scrap control and implementing practices to reduce labor costs while maintaining optimal staffing levels.
·         Supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in all phases of plant operations, including production; distribution and warehousing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
·         Provide leadership to plant personnel, foster positive employee relations, establish goals and objectives and when necessary work with the union steward and human resources to resolve grievances.
·         Establish training and cross training to enhance plant efficiency.
·         Assure compliance with all safety, health and environmental rules and regulations.
·         In conjunction with the Company Controller, make recommendations for improvements and enhancements to the Company’s information technology system and jointly oversee the implementation of improvements and enhancements.
·         Guide and oversee the Sales Manager’s implementation and execution of a formal sales plan including sales initiatives, goals and objectives.
·         Guide and oversee the Advertising Manager’s implementation and execution of a formal marketing plan including marketing initiatives, goals and objectives.
·         In conjunction with the Controller establish an annual budget and management reports to be prepared and disseminated to management personnel.
·         Work with the President and Executive Vice President in developing long term strategies and initiatives.



Skills
·         Excellent, high level analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
·         Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes including experience with punch presses, brake presses, turret presses, metal forming and an understanding of processes related to injection molding – resistance, MIG and TIG welding including aluminum and plastic extrusions.
·         Ability to establish credibility, mediate important interdepartmental decisions, while demonstrating the ability to recognize and support the Company’s preferences, priorities and culture.
·         Strong, well-developed interpersonal communication skills adept at motivating employees, addressing and resolving complaints, conflicts and grievances.
·         Attention to detail – approaches work in a meticulous, thorough and detailed manner.
·         Able to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality to keep sensitive information secure.
·         Time management – prioritizes work to meet goals and deadlines.
·         Strong written and technical communication skills.
·         Able to successfully and tactfully work with a diverse group of individuals.


Education and Experience

Ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience of manufacturing and management experience in a union environment. 

Computer Skills

Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and have experience in ERP.
