Save the Lives of LGBT Youth

A grassroots movement has begun to create safer environments and brighter futures for LGBT youth who all too often face ridicule, taunting, and discrimination.

Young people need and deserve a world that promotes their full physical and mental health, protects them from HIV, and provides ready access to comprehensive, LGBT-appropriate health education and services.

Since 1985, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) has advocated for just such a future.  Help us celebrate 25 years of accomplishments as we focus attention on the needs of LGBT youth at AFC’s Spring Luncheon on Monday, May 2 at the Chicago Hilton.  The keynote address by acclaimed author and activist Dan Savage will describe how the It Gets Better project is integral to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Inspired by Dan, I recorded my own video testimonial to speak to gay, bisexual, and transgender youth who must navigate an inhospitable world and the realities of HIV/AIDS.  AFC staff also offer their own video messages of hope and inspiration to the next generation that will lead the HIV/AIDS fight.

At the heart of our and other testimonials is the tenacity and determination that has fueled AIDS advocacy for 30 years: It gets better because we get stronger. Despite the difficulties that lie ahead, we have all come such a long way in fighting this epidemic.  Working together, our movement against HIV and all forms of stigma and discrimination will continue to gain momentum.

Please join us in celebrating our success and future plans with Dan Savage on May 2 at the Spring Luncheon. Purchase your tickets today, and be sure to check out AFC’s It Gets Better videos.

I look forward to seeing you on May 2.
Sincerely,

David Ernesto Munar
President/CEO
