Working With Children and Youth in Military Families

The University of Arizona is pleased to announce the launch of 4 NEW online courses beginning this summer regarding Working With Children and Youth in Military Families. Understanding the U.S. Military Structure From a Family Perspective
FCSC 411 a/511 a (available for undergraduate and graduate Credit)
Course dates: May 16-June 7, 2011 (Pre-Session)
About the course: This one unit course will explore how military service influences children, youth and families.

Understanding Youth Development: An Applied Approach
FCSC 496 a/596 a (available for undergraduate and graduate Credit)
Course dates: May 16- June 7, 2011 (Pre-Session)
About the course: This 3-unit course focuses on understanding positive youth programming and its influence on youth development. It is designed to help prepare individuals for working directly with youth.

Understanding the Modern U.S. Military Family*
FCSC 411 b/511 b (available for undergraduate and graduate credit)
Course dates: June 6-July 7, 2011 (Summer I)
About the course: This 3-unit course focuses on military life issues, including relocation, deployment, reunification, and recent changes in the U.S. military family and how these issues affect children.
* ‘Understanding the U.S. Military Structure From a Family Perspective’ is a prerequisite for this course.

Understanding and Working with Young Children
FCSC 423/523 (available for undergraduate and graduate credit)
Course dates: July 7- August 10, 2011 (Summer II)
About the course: This 3- unit course explores theories and research in early child development and practical applications for working directly with young children and their families.

All classes are offered via online format through the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona. To REGISTER…you must be admitted to the University of Arizona as a degree seeking or non-degree seeking student before taking any courses for university credit.
