The Friends First program of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls believes that children benefit from positive and consistent involvement by adults. Friends First is a one-on-one, same gender mentoring program that matches children with positive adults who serve as role models.
For nearly 20 years, the Friends First volunteer mentoring program has matched more than 1,000 Chicago-area boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 17 with caring adults who have become reliable friends and role models. We ask that participants commit to regular meetings with their volunteer for one year. Meetings between the mentor and mentee occur on weekends and might be social, recreational or cultural.
The Friends First program of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls considers all qualified candidates
with a recruitment focus on girl mentees (ages 9-12) and male mentors.
