Duties:
Participates with the management team in the formulation and adoption
of region-wide plans, procedures and policies. Participates as the
key member of the Regional Directorate in annual budgetary planning,
calls for competitive funds, and assists in achieving annual
budgetary goals. Participates in planning and implementation of
strategies to resolve complex and politically sensitive issues, even
if the primary focus is not resource management related.
Responsible for developing and setting short and long term resource
management goals, objectives and priorities, in coordination with the
regional Natural and Cultural Advisory Groups, Regional Leadership
Council, superintendents and park managers, for the cultural and
natural resource needs of the Region, including planning,
prioritization and policy development for resource stewardship.
Responsible for all technical aspects of NCR's research program.
Initiates, coordinates, assists, directs and evaluates a
comprehensive multidisciplinary program for research, technical
assistance and education through accredited institutions of higher
learning, as well as government agencies that provide similar
services.
Serves as the direct liaison between the NCR and U.S. Geological
Services (USGS), the National Science Foundation and other state and
federal research providers.
Serves as the NCR representative at Servicewide meetings and as the
NPS representative on multi-agency scientific committees and task
forces.
Performs the full range of supervisory duties over a staff of
professional, supervisory, and administrative work by employees
ranging in grade from GS-7 through GS-14.
