2011 Summer Programs for Chicago Youth

The City of Chicago continues to encourage everyone to take advantage of the positive learning activities offered by the City and its partners to keep youth safe and constructively occupied this summer. A wide variety of exciting programs and activities are still available.  Don’t miss out!

After School Matters Programs

After School Matters is a public-private partnership offering Chicago teens a wide variety of hands-on, project-based opportunities in the arts, science, sports, technology and communications. Contact: After School Matters, 312-742-4182,

Chicago Public Library Programs

The Chicago Public Library serves Chicago’s youth and their families by providing free programs and resources to the public at 75 locations six days a week. The Harold Washington Library Center, Woodson Regional Library and Sulzer Regional Library are open seven days a week. Contact: Chicago Public Library, 312-747-4050, www.chipublib.org

Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Programs

The Chicago Housing Authority offers activities over the summer exclusively for CHA youth, but CHA youth are encouraged to participate in all city programs. Contact: Chicago Housing Authority, 312-742-8500, www.thecha.org


Chicago Park District Programs

The Chicago Park District offers more than 2,700 programs and events at its parks and facilities this summer for youth ages 6 to 17 to enjoy. Frequency of program, target ages and fees vary by park. Contact: Chicago Park District, 312-742-PLAY or visit www.chicagoparkdistrict.com

Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) Programs

Youth can participate in a variety of activities designed to provide positive experiences and teach life skills sponsored by Districts or conducted in cooperation with neighborhood organizations. Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) Programs

The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services offers a range of out-of school time and career exploration opportunities that provide youth with the experiences they need to succeed in school and beyond. Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Programs
