Child and Adult Daycare Food Program

FW: Child and Adult Daycare Food Program

FYI – Please forward to your coalition contacts.

Eligible centers who have kids that would meet free or reduced meal criteria could get reimbursed for serving foods that meet USDA guidelines.  Trainings are being offered, see below.

This is the information for the program that provides reimbursements for meals or snacks.  For now all training is in English. I’ll be working on developing information and training  in Spanish over the next several months.

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is federally-funded through the United States Department of Agriculture. The funding helps organizations to provide more nutritious meals and snacks to children in non-residential child care facilities; however, emergency shelters providing assistance to children may participate. The Illinois State Board of Education only processes reimbursements for centers with children (infant – 18 years old).  The “Adult” portion of the program is administered through the Department on Aging.

Organizations that can participate in the CACFP include:

·         Public institutions such as municipal, county, state, or federal government agencies

·         Nonprofit institutions that have documentation from the U.S. Department of Treasury that they meet Section 501(c)3 criteria of the Internal Revenue Code

·         For-profit institutions who have at least 25 percent of their license capacity or enrolled children who receive either

1) Subsidized child care benefits or

2) Free and reduced-price meals

Eligible entities include public, non-profit, and for-profit, nonresidential child care centers; Head Start/Early Head Start centers; preschool programs, before- and after-school hours programs; after-school programs in low income areas; and emergency shelters.  This part of the program is referred to as child care centers.

Application training is provided every two months.  The next training is scheduled for September 29 in Springfield.  Currently, all new sponsor training is in Springfield.
