Dear Service Provider,
The
Chicago Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency Preparedness and
Response, is offering a free workshop titled: Psychological First Aid Basic
Principles.
The
training is designed for mental health providers and for crisis
& disaster workers with little or no formal mental health training.
Participants
will increase their understanding of, and abilities
to:
•
Identify the basic
objectives and intervention strategies of Psychological First Aid.
•
Increase their
understanding and abilities to:
•
Actively listen
•
Assess disaster related
needs, prioritize
•
Recognize
non-incapacitating reactions from more severe reactions
•
Reduce acute distress
•
Understand when to
refer for additional care.
•
Gain confidence in
implementing the intervention strategies of Psychological First Aid in
diverse settings, in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
•
Identify ways to
enhance provider care before, during, and after a disaster.
