Mentees Can Win Opportunities through Rocket21 Contest
November 15, 2011: For organizations serving mentees interested in the environment (animals, nature, oceans, conservation), be sure to tell them about a contest offering the winner a once-in-a-lifetime experience to attend the 2011 Captain Planet Foundation Benefit Gala in Atlanta, GA, sponsored by the education organization Rocket21 through their partnership with the Captain Planet Foundation.
Rocket21 offers safe social networking resources to support and prepare young people for 21st century success by inviting them to discover and explore their interests, passions and future careers with real-life professionals. This contest — Dream Here–Dream Big–Dream Green — is the first in a series of contests that will give young people unique opportunities to change their lives and expand their horizons
The deadline for entering the contest is midnight November 22. Judges will evaluate entries based on their innovation and creativity.
In addition to attending the gala December 9, where Grammy Award winner Alison Krauss will perform and the dinner will be created by world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck, the winner and one friend and parent will attend an invitation-only reception with media titan and environmentalist Ted Turner, the world's foremost oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle and television personality and champion for the planet Jeff Corwin. Travel to Atlanta and hotel accommodations will be covered, and the winner will receive a $150 gift card from Macy's, three tickets to the Georgia Aquarium and $300 for meals and incidental costs.
"Our mission is to nurture the big dreams that kids have by giving them access to the world-class experts who are doing the things these young people dream of doing," said Rocket21 Founder and CEO Mark Grayson. "This Dream Here–Dream Big series of contests will have different themes, and they are all designed to offer potentially game-changing experiences for the winners. We are extremely excited to be able to further enrich young people in this way."
MENTOR President and CEO Dr. Larry Wright noted, "Mark and his colleague Jodell Seagrave were presenters at the National Mentoring Summit last January. Their platform not only gives young people educational and career-based resources, but it also offers meaningful activities for mentors and mentees to do together."
